Lovely to hear from you!
Tumblr’s great… it gives me the opportunity of sharing old and new art, and communicating with people more directly!
Tank Girl was long dead, Jamie working on Gorillaz (I worked on the animation for the first album at passion pictures, a London Production Company)
I chanced across Alan selling pieces of script on Ebay of all places, and asked him why he wasn’t writing Tank Girl anymore. (He was working in a pub)
Alan’s publishers weren’t interested , as Jamie was busy on Gorillaz, and had no intention of going back to Tankie, so I offered to introduce him to Ashley Wood (as I knew he’d need a high profile artist on the project if we were to get it restarted).
After a few false starts with Publishers (it’s a minefield out there) we got a publishing deal with the good folk at IDW…
Half an issue in, Ashley asked me to help him with the art, as his workload was too much for him (He was doing Popbots, Metal gear Solid with me, and developing films and producing toys with his own company)
So.. I took over art duties.
Jamie and I were influenced by the same stuff…. 2000ad, Mad Magazine Warner bros Cartoons, and Ronald Searle.. so our work has always been pretty similar… so it seemed a pretty natural fit!
I don’t draw exactly like Jamie…and I don’t try too.. I’d like her to ‘look’ like Tankie… but if I just copy Jamie..it’ll look dead…
I’m so pleased you’ve liked the new books. xxx
